To encourage conversations in this forum area, I thought I would make some suggestions for new threads. Please feel free to be the first to start any one of these topics, or create your own. Anything regarding specific hunting regions and areas could be a good starter topic here.

  • Where do you hunt? What Region do you hunt?
  • Hunters looking to network and share hunting spots
  • Best squirrel hunt and it's location
  • Do you prefer to hunt by yourself or with a group?
  • Which do you think is more effective, hunting alone, with a dog, with a group, etc.?
  • Do you take your son/daughter hunting with you?

I am looking to hunt some Abert's squirrels this fall when I travel to see my brother in Albuquerque.  Anyone know of any good public lands to find some of these tufted ears.  If I am able to come, it would be early October.  I would be willing to exchange a hunt with one or more in eastern NC for eastern grays.  I have several good places to go on private and public lands.  I may even be able to get a hunt for fox squirrels on public lands.  Just let me know.

I recently spent 2 days hunting in the Mingo and Duck Creek areas of southeast Missouri and did not see an awful lot of squirrels.  I was disappointed in their numbers because, I had gotten good reports about their population there.  I got a total of 4 squirrels in two days (mornings & afternoons trips).  Of course, I did see several others that I could not get a shot at (and there were a few misses).  Anyway, I was somewhat disappointed with my success.  But, the trip was well worth it for the other things that I did see (like 4 baby raccoons playing on a log!).  One handicap about the areas is; you can only use steel (or non-toxic) shot because it is a waterfowl area.  But you can use a rimfire .22's for squirrels, etc.  (I was using a 20ga. double).   This was my first experience with steel shot for squirrels and it was just as disappointing as my past experiences with it on ducks.  I live in eastern Dent County, Missouri and we have a very, very low population of squirrels this year.

I live in West Central Mo and just moved back to this area from the Springfield MO area. I would rather squirrel hunt than eatCool In this part of the state we have plenty of Squirrels. I hunt with Rimfire, Anschutz 1700 FWT(22 LR) and Anschutz 1702 (17 HM2) scoped of course. Here are a few Pictures of hunts so far this year.

I live in West Tennessee. We have a lot of public land within a 40 mile radius. Very few people squirrel hunt around here. Natchez Trace State Park is one of my favorite places to go. 48,000 acres to hunt. Camping  and forestry road help get you in deeper. Took many squirrels from here. Harmons Creek WMA use to have worlds squirrel hunt and dog trials, but not sure if they still have it. That is another good place to go. I hunt by my self most of the time. My son is going to hunt with me this year.

I live in Natchez, Ms. I too would rather squirrel hunt than eat. I am a devout rimfire shooter. I hunt with and without dogs. When I'm stillhunting I have a couple different  rifles that I use but at the moment it is between a CZ 452 American M2 and a Ruger 77/M2. When I'm following my dogs I mostly tote a customized 10/22. I also run coons with my dogs. I eat all the squirrels that I kill. I like them fried. I have a nephew that is as crazy about it as I am and he tags alpong with me every chance he gets.

I live in SE KS and contrary to popular belief, KS has a lot of trees and some good squirrel hunting. I've been hunting squirrels since I was a mere stribling.  My two main squirrel rifles are an Anschutz .22lr and a Cooper 17hm2 and both are left handed on account of me being left handed, which is great cause nobody sets up a tune wanting to borry my rifles.
